Why Police Lie

In this NYT Op-Ed Micelle Alexander gives us several good reasons why Police testimony, in court, is not to be trusted. First of all police feel comfortable about lying. Their word will be taken over that of most suspects and that the worst that can happen to them for lying is the case gets dismissed. But worse the system actually icentivizes Policemen into lying. There still exist, in many departments, secret quota’s for arrest and conviction.
